Distinguish yourself with an ORCID

Use your ORCID to link grants, publications and datasets together. With a unique and persistent identifier (and an associated web services), you can automatically keep your data up to date in many research systems. An ORCID ID is a persistent digital identifier that you own and control. It is born from an effort to build a global-scale open identifier registry for researchers. You can use the ORCHID system to help distinguish between people with the same name, or help people whose names might appear differently over time, from one project to another. Registering for an ORCID iD helps to promote discoverability, protect your unique scholarly identitya and help keep your publication record up-to-date with very little effort.

Building a "goldilocks" profile

A "just right" profile will allow you to establish an professional or academic identity that suits you. When a profile is linked to your research publications, you can establish yourself within a research community, showcase your publications and research data to a wider audience and advance your academic trajectory. This information can also be used to connect with potential collaborators, expand your network and increase your impact. You can demonstrate leadership, outreach and collaboration.

There are many ways to establish your scholarly identity. We are looking for the golidlocks zone and this session will attempt to create a "just right" academic profile.

Commercial social media platform, such as Facebook, enable people to easily connect to and communicate with others. This also applies to academics, and those who share similar interests use Facebook to make personal connections with people who are both from inside and outside the Ivory Tower. If you are looking for a good way to share your research with new audiences, you can go to Facebook and join these networks and contribute towards discussions and sharing information. Twitter helps you stay on top of news in your field, find new publications, get speaking and publishing opportunities, communicate research directly to the public, and – perhaps most importantly – find a sense of community.
