MAKE OvER Monday

Make OvER Monday

Can you identify – where you think that your digital materials are working well AND where energy is necessary to improve another section. Focus on one good thing. Identify one thing you’d like to improve. Don’t try save the world through digital. Just ask yourself, can I, on MAKE OvER Monday, identify a small area for praise and another area for betterment?

On MakeOvER Monday, I try to note a robust practice, important information or good idea AND a fragile point. Then I try and see if I can

  1. Write up my good practice and contribute it to the commons
  2. Adapt and available OER resources to make a small improvement to fragile points.

MAKEOvER Monday is the day for course developers, media specialists, instructional designers, content producers to work together and recognize what’s great and act upon what’s been bothering them. Its time to don on the overalls, get their hands dirty , and do some DIY.

If you’d like to make your own small scale improvements to your digital? And contribute towards other’s quality. Join in for Make OvER Monday. Held weekly. Commit to 4 sessions in a month.

Where’s makeover’s might happen?

  1. The Moodle Messy Palette.
  2. Hello Wikipedian

1) The Moodle Messy Palette.

The messy Moodle palette is a place to experiment, entirely separate from  public work. Its at your own risk. I can’t guarantee Moodle will always be there. But for the moment, “The Messy Palette” can make it easier for learning technologists to envision adopt, adapt, and teaching using a third party LMS.

This is an instance of Moodle that I am hosting on my server. In this space, those who join up will

  • draw upon Open Education Resources (OER)
  • sketch out and craft our digital education practices
  • learn how to combine “reach” and “teach” within a LMS
  • design and deliver a beta versions for comment, feedback and quality improvement.
  • make contributions to the open world and share our work with our peers

Remember. Makeovers are not going to be perfect. This is where the “course designer” crafts their own practice, and discovers a better combination of elements. DM me if you’d like to know more.

Hello Wikipedian

Every month, almost 30 thousand volumeters write edit, update, debate, fact check and correct crowdsourced Wikipedia pages. Their collaborative work has resulted in a collection of free, well sourced neutral information that many have read / write access to. This information is not always reliable, but it has a measure of truthiness, because all most all Wikipedia entries have a source, otherwise they gets deleted speedily. Wikipedia is a perfect space for makeovers. The knowledge that presented on major search engines and drawn on by LLMs is sourced from Wikipedia. This knowledge can always expand.

Those who join the “Hello Wikipedian” workshops will

  • Become familiar with the terrain of Wikipedia and its norms
  • Discover their inner Wikimedian voice and start contributing
  • Progressively learn about the platform and it’s many practices and possibilities
