They are also are a vehicles for stories. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Making a story centred map <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When visiting a new town, city or country, I orientate myself by going on a stroll. I try to find the \u201cCentre Point\u201d of a place. The centre of Middelburg is the NG Kerk (Wit Kerk)<a href=\"https:\/\/www.openstreetmap.org\/query?lat=-25.762006&amp;lon=29.456947\"> (25\u00b045&#8217;43.2&#8243;S 29\u00b027&#8217;25.0&#8243;E)<\/a>  and the Llandaff Oratory (Little Church) (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wikidata.org\/wiki\/Q628483\">Q628483<\/a>) is the centre of  Van Reenen. Knowing where the centre of town lies&#8230;allows me to orientate myself. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If I went Amsterdam, the centre point would be the \u201cOude Kerk\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/iGyzNkkmjiVwTwD79\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/iGyzNkkmjiVwTwD79\">lat=52.37 lon=4.89<\/a>). After hearing all that religious history a visit to a &nbsp;\u201cbrown caf\u00e9\u201d might be a nice contrast and alternative.  Listed below are a few of the historic caf\u00e9s. Naidoo<\/a> (family history), <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Template:Lobamba_City_map\">City Centre Lobamba <\/a> (places to see when in Eswatini),  <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Template:Clarens_art_festival\">Clarens Festival<\/a> (venues in town where events take place), the Parktown mansions (properties owned by Joburg&#8217;s Randlords ) and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Draft:Guerilla_Blue_Plaques\">Guerrilla Blue Plaques<\/a> (social history).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This map of Amsterdam is just another version. Might it be possible to attach a human voices to the actual place. A story teller can weave event and places together.
