Design thinking is a human-centered approach to solving problems using the tools of design to gather inspiration, build empathy, and create your solution. The design thinking approach and its mindset can help teachers and academics to solve everyday digital education challenges.  They can develop better programs, services, spaces, and systems with the LMS<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Discover<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/weblearning.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/LMS-Bingo.pdf\">LMS Bingo<\/a> \u2013<\/strong> show others what you know. An icebreaker activity (based on orientation activity) where participants will be given a 5X5 card with LMS centred tasks and asked to work together to complete a row of these tasks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Empathy Map<\/strong> \u2013 how do others (not you) experience e-learning? The facilitator will introduce an empathy map, so that course designers can empathise and understand the user experience.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/codepen.io\/Web-learning-the-bold\/pen\/eYPaNRq\">Contextual Interview<\/a><\/strong> &#8211; this is a research method where you look for insights into the environment or context of the audience<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Accelerated course<\/strong> \u2013 simulation of a course&nbsp;Facilitator will enrol participants (as students) on a&nbsp;brief constructivist course that will offer a demonstration of e-learning in action<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Debrief \u2013 <\/strong>what have we learnedFacilitator will again look at the empathy maps and together with participants identify the gain and pain points&nbsp;for clients<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Define<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>What is E-learning?<\/strong>A broad over overview of what e-learning is and the value it adds to the&nbsp;client.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Can you recognisegood e-learning practice? <\/strong>Presentation (built upon Webinar) which offers a framework to define good e-learning, participants will explore how technology can support such practices.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Doing things right or doing the right things?<\/strong>Impact of digital on organisations and the L &amp; D practices and how they are leading or being lead<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Deliver<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Course aspect cards &#8211; <\/strong>Participants will consider a course and with a set of course aspect cards, define the key elements of a course and create a set of priorities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Course blueprint &#8211; <\/strong>Participants will work together to create a blueprint to visualise the arrangement of key elements and plan and map out a&nbsp;first cut course<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Course evaluation criteria &#8211; <\/strong>Using criteria explained in the framework, participants will evaluate their own&nbsp;first cut course<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Develop<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Sitemap &amp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>Storyboard &#8211; <\/strong>Participants will be introduced to a&nbsp;sitemap and storyboard exemplar and modify it as they see fit to match their course blueprint<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Getting Real &#8211; Participants will be offered a choice of&nbsp;three roles (student, content developer or instructional designer) and allocated tasks on the basis of their roles, the sitemap and the storyboard.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Peer assessment<\/strong>&nbsp;Participants will be asked to evaluate other teams work during the two day course<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pre-requisites <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Technical and administrative functions associated with the workshop, will be managed and costed by the host<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A &#8220;sandpit&#8221;, where participants can apply and practice what they have learned, will be available to all who are enrolled on a workshop<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enrolled participants can access this LMS sandpit a week prior to and a month after the workshop<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Digital materials, necessary for the workshop activities, will be pre-loaded and available immediately a participant has been enrolled on a course<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A printed workshop manual will be printed and provided to each participant by the client.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Workshop materials and activities (print and digital) will be authored by Weblearning and licenced under Creative Commons<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve put together a &#8220;Design Thinking and the LMS&#8221; Workshop to introduce you to the design thinking process.
